About Me
Hey there, my name is Amy Louise Sharpe, and thank you for taking the time to visit my website. I’d like to share a little about myself and the way I work.
As a therapist, I am not separate from the complexity of the human experience or the emotions and challenges that can come with it. My lived experience, alongside my professional training, allows me to offer a warm, open, and safe space to support you on your therapeutic journey. It is through my own humanness that I hope my clients can begin to see the value and beauty in theirs.
Living within a multicultural society shapes the counselling process in many ways, often influencing both the client and therapist unconsciously. As a woman of colour, I have a personal understanding of some of the experiences that may impact the wellbeing of people of colour, including the barriers or reservations that can arise around seeking therapy. I believe it is important to acknowledge and honour diversity to fully understand a person’s story, lived experience, and perspective on the world.
I believe that healing is most effective when approached holistically. The mind and body are deeply connected, and alongside talking therapy, I advocate practices that support emotional and physical wellbeing together. I am passionate about meditation and yoga, and I have also completed training in EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), which can be used as a complementary tool within the healing process.
I currently work as an integrative counsellor in private practice. Alongside this, I have worked as a Clinical Assessor for a low-cost counselling service in South London and as a Senior Team Lead for NHS Talking Therapies.
Before becoming a therapist, my professional background included administration and the music industry, experiences that have also shaped my understanding of people, creativity, identity, and connection.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and an Accredited Registrant member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society. I work within their ethical frameworks for good practice.
